Facebook Accounts for 25% of All U.S. Pageviews →
holy cow!
Facebook’s putting up some big numbers in terms of U.S. web traffic. Right now, the site accounts for one out of every four pageviews in the United States — that’s 10% of all Internet visits.
According to data from analysis and intelligence firm Hitwise, Facebook’s year-over-year growth has been phenomenal. We reported in June that the social network was set to eclipse Google in...
Foursquare kicks off new brand loyalty program... →
dbreunig:
The pilot will be tested at some 200 Vons grocery stores (owned by Safeway) in Southern California. Grocery goers will be able to link their Safeway loyalty program to their Foursquare accounts and earn rewards from swiping their card at checkout – launching an automatic check in.
I’ll pause my Foursquare mocking for a sec: this is awesome. To break into the mainstream, Foursquare...

Paul Krill, InfoWorld:
‘The problem we’re facing right now is there is already a lot of excitement for HTML5, but it’s a little too early to deploy it because we’re running into interoperability issues,’ including differences between video on devices, said the official, Philippe Le Hegaret, W3C interaction domain leader….
‘We basically want to be feature-complete by mid-2011,’ Le...

Bye-Bye, ‘My’ →
cameronmoll:
This is a debate that has existed as long as I’ve been doing web design: In a web app, do you label text elements as ‘My ___’ or ‘Your ___’?
Erika Hall favors ‘Your’, and so have I for as long as I’ve been involved in the debate. In her words,
In their excellent Design Pattern Library, the Yahoo! Developer Network explains the heart of the problem their parent created. Instead of...

iPhone 4 GUI PSD (Retina Display) →
cameronmoll:
Not sure how I missed this news (dated August 12). This is the Retina Display-ready update to the original iPhone GUI PSD by Teehan+Lax.
The task was no small effort:
It wasn’t a simple scale-up from the last file. It was clear as we created it that Apple has spent a lot of time considering how each element should be translated to such a dense resolution. What were single pixel...

SO SO sad about this…
cameronmoll:
A good friend and long-time inspiration for me, Khoi is moving on:
It wasn’t an easy decision. I’ve been at The New York Times for four and a half years now, four and a half years that will doubtless figure prominently in my life for years to come. There were some rough patches, as there are with any job, but on the whole it’s been the best job I’ve...

Trent Walton: Trimming the Fat →
cameronmoll:
I completely agree with Trent’s observation about iPad influencing the way we design for non-iPad mediums:
This site wasn’t intended solely for the iPad, though it is inspired by my experience browsing the web sans mouse. Many of the assertions I made before getting an iPad have been strengthened each time I slide, swipe and tap my way across the inter-web. Each change I’ve made...
World cup graphics
Nice link and quote from Cindy: “I’m not ashamed to admit that I know absolutely nothing about the World Cup. But what I do know is that this nifty interactive calendar is dynamic and intuitive, perfect for people like me who are completely World Cup ignorant. Our iPad is our family computer in way that the kitchen macbook never was…. It feels less like a computer than any computing device I’ve owned. It’s easy on me in a way that the other devices are not.

Bob Hoffman, CEO of Hoffman/Lewis Advertising:
When their friends like it, their clients hate it. When their clients like it, their friends hate it. They are encouraged to be collaborative. But the more people touch their work, the worse it gets. They are counseled against becoming prima donnas. But they see that the people who get good jobs are often disagreeable monsters.

Apple Acquires Personal Mobile Assistant Siri →
cameronmoll:
They’re not just acquiring an iPhone app, but all of the smarts behind its mega-aggregator connecting to services such as Rotten Tomatoes, Yelp, TaxiMagic, OpenTable, and so on—just about anything a user could ask for with a natural language query.
Watch the demo and you’ll probably be as impressed as I am with not only the query data but the user experience, too.

Why I'm Angry About the iPhone Leak →

I believe this is David Shoemaker, founder of Boomplex, effusing some Gizmodo smackdown:
Somewhere along the line their sense of self-worth and success became perversely dependent on how well they could employ shady tactics to profit from tearing down other people’s hard work. We need less people like that in our society.
I can imagine how enraged I’d be if this had happened to...

here’s why Netbanker says most major financial brands should have an iPad app now:

Free publicity (part 2): There was, and is, a tremendous amount of hype around the iPad....

ipad review - laptop killer?
I fully believe in the iPad as a game-changer, and think people will get it once it gets into people’s hands. Apple makes things that feel good, work even better and I think the high-resolution of the device will give it a crispness that will seem like an incredibly revolutionary experience.
This article seems to bear that out.
